TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Visible waterjet entry point
The waterjet entry point takes the form of a subtle notch. This is entirely normal. The technology provides no way to prevent this during manufacture; however, the irregularity is minimized in subsequent operations.
Hairline cracks in the surface of the glass
When they appear at joints between individual fragments, they are not grounds for a warranty claim. Such cracks are superficial only and do not extend into the material, thus they have no effect on the declared properties of the material.
Small pigment spots
Though rare, small pigment spots (< 1 mm) may occasionally occur. Pigment spots are the result of minerals that are not visible at the time of manufacture but become visible during the process. Pigment spots occur more often in the Triplex Opal (white) glass. Our quality control standards do not permit pigment spots in more than 5% of the surface area. Such anomalies are unique trademarks of handmade glass.
Bubbles in the glass
During the manufacturing process, air bubbles may appear in the glass. This is not a defect or a sign of reduced quality and therefore may not be the subject of a warranty claim. We never ship any product that does not meet our strict quality control standards. Such anomalies are unique trademarks of handmade glass, and the presence of up to 3 air bubbles 1.5–2 mm in size per segment with sealed surface is not grounds for a warranty claim.
Recommended grout
Two-component, acid-resistant epoxy from Mapei called Kerapoxy, available in 26 colours, can also be used as an adhesive.
Recommended adhesive
Cementitious adhesive Mapei Adesilex P9 C2TE is specially formuated for gluing glass mosaics with no vertical slip and extended open time. Suitable for interior and exterior applications.
Recommended base coat
Recommended underlayment base coat prior to gluing mosaics, e.g. Ceresit CT175
Recommended grout joint width
In the case of segments, this is up to the customer. Tiles are spaced with a 2 mm grout joint between the individual segments.
Applications
A wide range of uses. Consideration must be given to the unique properties of the mosaics. In addition to traditional applications, the mosaics can be glued on glass or used in backlighting installations, for instance, which are currently in development.
Other properties
Minimal absorptivity
High resistance to water and aggressive chemicals
Easy maintenanceHigh resistance to wear
High resistance to odour absorption
Unmistakeable colouration and texture
100% safe and environmentally friendly
Waste from the segments is fully recycled by the manufacturer.
Material
Upcycled glass from primary production of high-quality glass in Czechia with a tradition dating to 1809. No added ingredients. 100% safe, recyclable.
Back finish
Unless the customer specifies otherwise, the back of the segments is sandblasted, leaving a matte finish. The sandblasting has no effect on translucence. In the case of tiles, the back is finished in a white coating that ensures the underlayment (mesh, adhesive, etc.) is not visible through transparent areas of the glass. This coating does, however, result in a partial reduction in translucence.
Edge finish
The edges of the mosaics are polished, resulting in a slightly rounded appearance with a gloss finish like that on the mosaic face.
Surface finish
The mosaics are manufactured with a gloss finish for easy maintenance/washability.
Texture
The texture varies from one piece to the next and depends on many factors, such as the fractions of the glass fragments, their orientation, dispersion, etc. BG is a special material, and each piece is a unique original.
Colours
There are currently three colour options to choose from: Triplex Opal BROKISGLASS (white), Smoke Grey BROKISGLASS, and Smoke Brown BROKISGLASS. The second and third options are in combination with crystal. Other colour options from our standard selection can be ordered as a CUSTOM SOLUTION; however, this will have a direct effect on the price and must be arranged by email (info@brokisglass.cz).
Weight
The average weight of an individual segment depends on its shape: M.1. WINGS - 61 g, M.2. WAY – 50.6 g, M.3. ROCKS – 76.2 g, M.4. HIVE - 65 g, M.5. DROPS – 76.8 g. For tiles, the weights are: M.1. WINGS – 1.8 kg, M.2. WAY – 1.9 kg, M.3. ROCKS - 2 kg, M.4. HIVE - 2 kg, M.5. DROPS – 1.7 kg.
Thickness
The resulting thickness of the mosaics is approx. 7 mm; however, occasionally the manufacturing process may result in a slight variance (max. 1 mm) in individual segments and mounted tiles.
Nominal dimensions
The dimensions of the mosaics, both individual segments and tiles, are specified in the pictograms. These are nominal dimensions; the final dimensions may vary slightly as a result of finishing and polishing operations. The segments have an allowable variance from the dimensions in the pictograms of +- 0.5-0.75 mm/side, tiles max. +- 5 mm/side. Atypical sizes can be ordered as a CUSTOM SOLUTION. Because the mosaics are cut with a waterjet, the smallest attainable format is 50 x 50 mm.
Types of products
Currently, there are two options to choose from: 1) individual segments sold in packs of 12 pcs for installation by the customer; 2) tiles mounted on fibreglass mesh packed in boxes of 3 pcs (0.95 sqm is thus packed in 3 boxes). At the same time, we also offer custom/atypical solutions, e.g. gluing on a suitable underlayment, most commonly OSB or fibreboard. Custom/atypical solutions are priced on a case-by-case basis.
Nomenclature, basic shapes
BROKISGLASS MOSAICS represent individual series comprising five basic shapes. The series bear the following designations: M.1. WINGS, M.2. WAY, M.3. ROCKS, M.4. HIVE, and M.5. DROPS.
