ABOUT THE COMPANY

STORY
BROKISGLASS – a symbiosis of nature and glassmaking tradition
The story of BROKISGLASS began in 2010, but the roots of glassmaking inJanštejn date back to the early 19th century. For over 200 years, the art of glass production has thrived here. In 2006, a bold new business strategy led to the founding of BROKIS alongside Janštejn Glassworks. Within a few short years, BROKIS established itself as a leading global brand in designer lighting.
As production of handblown glass increased, so did the volume of leftover cullet. Seeking an environmentally responsible solution, the idea of BROKISGLASS was born. What was once discarded as waste became the foundation of an innovative new material. Made from repurposed glass shards that would have otherwise ended up in landfills, BROKISGLASS offers a sustainable alternative, breathing new life into discarded materials while reducing environmental impact.

Brokisglass's thoughts
The beginning of the story of BROKISGLASS dates back to 2010, when shards began to be viewed in the glassworks as a raw material suitable for transformation into a new material. In this period, the process of sorting shards by color and storing them began. At the very beginning of the development of the new material, the glassworks cooperated with scientific departments and with the Secondary School of Glass in Valašské Meziříčí.

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
The development of technology for the production of new material began in 2010 and is constantly taking into account the increasingly complex requirements of customers. Janštejn Glassworks, in collaboration with leading experts on the subject, created a conceptual design of a continuous furnace that processes the material more efficiently. A stationary shard building furnace was developed, which became operational in 2017. After half a year of testing, we managed to set up the production process so that in two-shift operation it is possible to efficiently process up to 10 tons of waste material per week.

Expansion of technology

2014
Purchase of one of the largest stationary electric furnaces in the Czech Republic.

2017
Continuous gas furnace - purchase and commissioning.

2019
Waterjet cutting.
CREATION OF BROKISGLASS
In 2020, the company BROKISGLASS, s. r. o. will be established as part of the Janštejn Glass Group holding. Its connection with the sister companies BROKIS and Sklárna Janštejn enables continuous and structured supply of material for the production of this environmentally friendly material, but also other possibilities of using BROKISGLASS e.g. for BROKIS luminaires.

new creative director brokisglass
Since 2024, the role of creative director of BROKISGLASS has been held by Italian designer Simona Sbordone. Her long-term cooperation with BROKIS and her deep understanding of BROKISGLASS have opened the way for new uses of this unique material. Simona Sbordone's unique handwriting has been reflected in Senza Fine's collection of vases and trays, which combines elegance with innovative workmanship.

successful lca & epd certification
At the beginning of 2025, BROKISGLASS products were certified under the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) process. The result of this process is the internationally recognized Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) - a set of measurable information about the environmental impact of a product over the entire life cycle of the product.

BROKISGLASS TIMELINE
2010
INCEPTION OF THE BROKISGLASS CONCEPT

The story of BROKISGLASS began in 2010, when the glassworks began viewing glass fragments, called cullet, not as waste but as a valuable raw material for transformation into a new product. This marked the beginning of a careful sorting process, where cullet was categorized by colour and stored for future use. In the early stages of development, the glassworks collaborated with scientific institutions and the Glassmaking School in Valašské Meziříčí to explore the full potential of this emerging material.

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

The development of BROKISGLASS production technology began in 2010 and continues to evolve in response to increasingly complex customer demands. In collaboration with leading industry experts, Janštejn Glassworks designed a conceptual model for a continuous furnace that would significantly improve processing efficiency.
A breakthrough came in 2017 with the launch of a stationary furnace designed specifically for melting cullet. After six months of rigorous testing, the production process was optimized to enable efficient processing of up to 10 tons of recycled glass per week in a two-shift operation.
2014—2019
EXPANDING TECHNOLOGIES

2014
Acquisition of one of the largest stationary electric furnaces in the Czech Republic.

2018
Introduction of a continuous gas furnace – purchased and put into operation.
